Newcastle boutique’s £300,000 investment sparks top reviews

A boutique hotel in Newcastle has jumped up the popularity ladder after its new owner invested £300,000 into improving its standards.

The Townhouse, owned by Sheila Armstrong, now boasts an 82% occupancy rate and is constantly receiving glowing reviews on TripAdvisor, following the significant improvement at the property six months ago.

Armstrong took over as the hotel’s sole owner last year and has since gone on to show off the real potential of the Victorian building.

She now has ambitious plans for the future, including an extension to The Townhouse and exploring the idea of developing a similar establishment elsewhere in the region.

The 10-bedroom hotel in Gosforth has been receiving a flurry of five-star comments on TripAdvisor and has been awarded the review site’s Certificate of Excellence 2015.

General manager Mariko Richardson has also been nominated for a TripAdvisor Excellent Service Award.

Speaking to Chronicle Live, proprietor Armstrong said: “When I was first involved in the hotel seven years ago it was 17 bedrooms catering for the contractor market. I could see the potential of such a fabulous Victorian building and therefore we converted it to boutique hotel with spacious and stylish rooms for business and leisure guests.

“I will be adding a further five rooms in a new extension and am also in the final stages of considering a similar development elsewhere in the region.”
