Night club closure signals the start of luxury hotel ambition in St Andrews

A popular night club has spun its last record as it closes its doors to be replaced by a new luxury spa at a hotel spot in St Andrews.

The Lizard Lounge is part of Hotel Ogstons, a 13-bedroom boutique in the centre of St Andrews, which is currently undergoing a refurbishment to transform it into a luxury hotel.

The popular night spot officially shut on Saturday night to make way for a new spa that the owners hope will switch the focus from being a hotel with a club, to a more upmarket hospitality establishment.

The renovations have now started at ‘The Liz’, with manager Fraser McLeod saying that a spa was a ‘natural step’ for the hotel.

Speaking to Fife Today, McLeod said: “The hotel is our main priority and we are excited to begin the renovations and to provide a higher standard of hospitality to our guests.

The refurbishment at Hotel Ogstons will be completed by April 2017, with the spa facilities open to the public on a membership basis also.
