Oddfellows Hotels celebrates first year with record occupancy rates

Paul Cookson - Oddfellows Hotels anniversary

Oddfellows Hotels has recently celebrated its first anniversary in business, with record occupancy results and over 10,000 likes on Facebook.

The boutique hotel, which is now managed by Oddfellows Management Company headed up by Jonathan Slater, opened in 2011 and was the first property to launch under the newly-formed Oddfellows group last year.

The group’s second property, Oddfellows on the Park in Manchester, is due to open in December.

The hotel group’s operation team comprises of Slater, Samantha Ratcliffe and Paul Cookson, who are eyeing up sites for a potential third property too.

Oddfellows Chester reported occupancy levels at 98.5% from April through to July, with all apartments sold out for the whole of August.

Paul Cookson, general manager commented: “We have had our best year in the hotel’s history. Profits are up, standards are higher than ever and our guests are happier. Chester has had an amazing summer so far. April through to July ran at a 98.5% occupancy which I haven’t seen before in my 25 years in the industry. Our apartments are sold out for August.”

He added: “When we opened our rooms for online booking at Oddfellows On The Park, we sold out a number of dates immediately. It’s an extraordinary reaction and reassuring to know we are giving our customers what they want.”

Jonathan Slater said: “Oddfellows Hotels is one year-old and proving to be a wonderful adventure. We always knew that we would do things differently. Most of my team at Oddfellows HQ have worked in a corporate hotel environment before and were tempted away by the fun, creativity and input that is possible in a small, independent collection. We can change the rules and challenge the norms but with over 150 years of hotel experience between us all, we take very educated risks.”

Social media is testimony to the hotel group’s growing popularity with its customers. The hotel’s Chester Facebook page has just reached over 10,000 likes, compared to 6,500 this time last year.
