Plans unveiled for floating Norwegian hotel

A Dutch firm specialising in floating structures has revealed plans for a snowflake-shaped hotel, complete with glass roof, for guests to watch the Northern Lights while coasting off Tromso in Norway.

The 86-bedroom design will be built in pieces in dry docks before being assembled on location and will be accessed via only a boat.

The idea has been proposed by developers Dutch Docklands International, who build only floating developments and have named the project the Krystall Hotel.

The design will hope to create the same look and feel as a luxury hotel on land and will come complete with a wellness centre, spa and conference rooms.

The developers said that the hotel would be run by a "five star hotel operator" and open before Christmas 2016.
