Since joining the business in 2012, Andrew Grahame has overseen the transformation of Farncombe Estate; from a loss-making business employing 75 people into one of the best boutique businesses in the UK, running three award-winning hotels which now employ nearly 300 people. To top it off, turnover has trebled in three years under Andrew’s leadership.
From recruiting an experienced executive team, to managing and leading 25 different refurbishment projects with an investment of £16m and helping successfully launch a new hotel each year, for the team at Farncombe, it is Andrew’s leadership, vision and drive that sets him apart.
Andrew is always challenging the norm, coming up with new ideas and has an open mind to change and it’s this mentality has taken Farncombe on its cultural journey from a reactive business stuck in a rut to a classy Cotswolds’ establishment.
Caring and nurturing the team are hallmarks of a great business leader and something very close to Andrew’s heart. A shining example of his attitude to his staff was when he made the business decision to close all three hotels on the Estate to give his whole team and their partners a huge party – complete with themed food, entertainment and transportation – just to say ‘thank you’.
Andrew, together with his executive team, creates a culture of ‘anything is possible’ and makes sure staff emotionally engage in what the business is doing and feel they can contribute to the Estate’s success. Farncombe is based on the values of being independent, family-run with an added sense of ‘we are in this together’; a real antidote that comes from Andrew to the world of corporate hotel culture.
Andrew has achieved a huge amount in such a short space of time and he is always thinking about the next phase of development; not standing still is his motto. His inspirational brand of leadership and mentoring helps keeps Farncombe ahead of the pack in such a competitive marketplace.
