Northcote as a business has been part of Craig’s life since the age of 16. He chose to not go to University but to grow through a dedicated Management Training Course whilst working for Ribble Valley Inns, part of the Northcote Leisure Group. During this course he completed an FD in Hospitality. At the age of 21, Craig rose to the position of assistant manager.
Following this he moved to Northcote as guest relations manager and since then he has completed Master Innholders Aspiring Leaders MIALD course, where he was selected from 50 applications to form a cohort of just 17. At the age 26, chef patron Nigel Haworth, together with managing director Craig Bancroft promoted Craig to hotel manager to oversee development of hotel side of the business. After completing his development in this role, Craig took on the position of general manager, a promotion that was so richly deserved.
As a person Craig has achieved a great deal. In 2015 he was awarded an Acorn Award from the Caterer, and he was also named Front of House Manager of the Year by us here at Boutique Hotelier.
Training is a large part of the business at Northcote. Craig has built a mentor programme where each of his heads of departments has a junior manager to train and develop into future senior managers. Not only this but he also has forged strong links with the local colleges and regularly invites budding hospitality talent to experience first-hand what it’s like to work at Northcote.
Craig has daily KPI meetings where the direction and current state of the business is discussed and Craig is a key contributor to this; Northcote is a new business and he is learning how it grows daily.
Personally Craig has a number of ambitions. He wants to become part of the St Julian Scholar’s scheme and be the youngest holder of the Master Innholder status. His biggest ambition is to one day run his own hotel like Northcote and he certainly is well on his way to doing so.
