Major renovations have begun at three Bournemouth hotels after they were acquired by a Qatari firm last year.
The Oceana Hotels on Bournemouth’s East Cliff were bought for £16m last year and include The Cliffeside Hotel, Suncliff Hotel and the flagship The Cumberland.
The Cliffeside has been given a multi-million pound refurbishment, transforming it from a 64-bedroom, three-star hotel into the luxury Ocean Beach Hotel and Spa.
Director of operations Kevin Wood said the refurbishment “transformed the property from a typical dated resort hotel into a new concept, design hotel”.
Now the Ocean Beach Hotel is home to an Asian-themed day spa, plus Italian restaurant and ‘Banksy-style’ poolside mural depicting spots along the coast such as Durdle Door and Studland Beach.
The group has also opened the Overcliff Pub and Kitchen at the adjacent Suncliff Hotel and is midway through refurbishing the 100-plus bedrooms at the Cumberland Hotel.
It says the Cumberland will be upgraded ‘to cater for today’s modern traveller’, with an Art Deco style decor, modern electrics, USB ports and LED eco lighting.
The 65-bedroom Best Western Hotel, also on the East Cliff, was the third property acquired by the Qatari firm, with plans now underway to upgrade its interiors.
