Record financial year leads to expansion at Leeds hotel

A country house hotel near Leeds has started an ambitious refurbishment after seeing a record financial year.

The 29-bed Monk Fryston Hall Hotel was purchased by Sharon Mason and her partner Geoff Davies with support from Barclays in March 2013.

Last year the duo made several changes to the business after taking over, and as a result saw weddings increase from 38 events in 2013 to over 100 events this year, while room occupancy has grown from 65% to 76% and overall revenue has risen by over 50%.

Now they have begun some refurbishment work as a result, which will take the business to the ‘next stage of the growth journey’.

Daniella Taylor, relationship director for Barclays, commented: “It’s so rewarding working with customers to achieve their long held dreams and support them with not only finance, but guidance and specialist support.

“Sharon and Geoff have developed the business in many areas and the success they are now seeing is a testament to their hard work and commitment.”
