Ian Schrager and Marriott International have announced the launch date of the next EDITION hotel, opening in New York City in May.
The boutique hotel pioneer’s partnership with Marriott has seen the launch of London EDITION and Miami EDITION hotels and the latest New York property will mark the duo’s third in the portfolio.
Located within the Flatiron district in the city, the New York EDITION is situated across from Madison Square Park and takes its home in the iconic former Met Life Insurance Clocktower, which was once the tallest building in New York.
The 273-bedroom hotel combines the historic landmark’s original Beaux-Arts architecture with rich interior details and a modern, edgy, original, and sophisticated sensibility.
The hotel will also feature a restaurant run by London chef Jason Atherton, two bars and a billiards room, as well as three private dining rooms.
Each space in the lifestyle boutique has been inspired by 1920’s New York and is true to Schrager’s distinct innovative concepts and pioneering style. The hotel oozes a modern sophisticated design and aims to give guests the feel of a private home rather than a hotel room.
“I’m always interested in upsetting the status quo and going off in new directions. Combining opposites and unexpected surprises has always been fascinating to me. When two opposing aesthetics come together, they either fail miserably or create an alchemy. If done well, the presence of one will always serve to showcase the other. It takes the experience of staying in a hotel to a whole new level and the end result is impossible to categorise,” Schrager says.
This will mark Schrager’s third hotel venture in partnership with Marriott International, following the launch of London EDITION in 2013 and Miami EDITIOn in 2014, both of which opened to rave reviews.
