September 2018 set to see new ‘design forward’ boutique hotel pop up in London

A new boutique hotel is set to open its doors in London this September, taking residence in a striking new six-storey glass building in the city.

Bankside will be a 161-bedroom hotel on the south bank of the River Thames, and is part of the One Blackfriars development from architect Ian Simpson.

The hotel will also be home to ‘white cubes’ for meetings and events, co-working areas and a neighbourhood style restaurant and bar with outdoor terrace.

The interiors will be designed by Dayna Lee of Powerstrip Studios and big emphasis will be placed on sustainability at the new property.

Key initiatives will include in-room power-saving elements, rooftop beehives, an aim of zero waste landfill, sustainably-sourced wood and the use of non-or low-VOC paints throughout.

“We wanted to create a genuine boutique hotel for the modern mindset, with calm rooms and creative public spaces that reflect the vibrant, history-steeped community of SE1,” states Dayna Lee. “We’ve had fun celebrating the local artistic community including post-kiln pottery drying racks for shelves, kid-leather-covered furnishings conjuring an ‘art school’ experience and punctuating these with lots of luxurious, custom-made features.”

Independently owned and operated, Bankside is a member of the Autograph Collection.
