Guests staying at the luxury Cumberland Hotel in London got a fright when an exotic snake was found sneaking out of their luggage.
The shocked couple made the discovery when unpacking their suitcases at the four-star hotel in Westminster following a 3,000 mile flight from Kuwait to the UK, and found the albino hognose snake hidden among towels.
The 12-inch reptile was quickly removed by an RSPCA officer who was called to the hotel following the incident.
Speaking to the London Standard, animal collections officer Jill Sanders, who was called to the rescue, explained: “I think this couple nearly jumped out of their skin when they started to unpack their luggage after their seven-hour flight and found this uninvited stowaway.
“The long, red-and-yellow snake was just sitting there on top of their towels.”
The officer then checked the suitcase before leaving to make sure nothing else had been stowed away without notice and declared the area clear.
