Somerset boutique capitalises on local cider

The Lanes Hotel in West Coker Somerset has created its very own cider list, in a bid to capitalise on one of the world’s fastest growing adult beverages.

The 26-bedroom boutique has carefully compiled a list of ciders, similar to that of a sommelier’s wine list, featuring bottled fermented cider, single varietals, blends as well as an ice cider, cider brandy and a Kingston Black aperitif.

The main hotel has been converted from a former rectory into a chic boutique and alongside the 10 bedrooms in house, is home to a bar and restaurant, Brasserie at the Lanes.

An extension building houses a further 16 bedrooms, a gym and a spa, plus four fully self contained one- and two-bedroom apartments.

The gardens also have four permanent residents in the form of four friendly goats.

The Lanes Hotel is positioned right in the heart of cider-making country and the list makes the most of the local produce that is right on its doorstep.

Hotel director, Shaun Whitehouse commented: “I was blown away by the quality of cider being made within a 10 mile radius of the hotel. I have met all the producers listed and have quickly learnt that Somerset has world-beating ciders. It really is a privilege to be serving them in the hotel.”

The full list is available now and features 14 ciders and perry from Bridge Farm Cider, Perry’s Cider, Somerset Cider Brandy & Burrow Hill Cider, Mallets and Thatchers.
