Sopwell House in St Albans has announced the appointment of Thomas Garlich as its new general manager.
The property, which is part of AB Hotels, has welcomed Garlich from his role as resident manager at Luton Hoo Hotel, where he was positioned for eight years.
He will now oversee the 128 bedrooms, 16 exclusive Mews Suites, two restaurants, cocktail lounge and conservatory bar, along with the conference and wedding business within the 19 meeting and banqueting suites at Sopwell House.
As the new general manager, Garlich will also be responsible for the extensive expansion of the spa which will commence later this year.
Garlich has worked in the hospitality industry since 1983, when he started his career as a chef apprentice in Germany working in a number of Michelin-starred restaurants. In 1996, he completed his master’s degree in Hospitality Administration and Management in Dortmund, Germany.
In the early 2000s, Garlich took his experience to front of house and commenced working within the management side of the hotel business. Starting as the food & beverage manager at the Pink Beach Club in Bermuda, he was soon promoted to resident manager where he worked for eight years gaining invaluable experience.
