A 123-bedroom spa hotel has been proposed by developers planning a £300m project to enhance Edinburgh Marina.
Positioned on the outskirts of Edinburgh, two and a half miles from the city centre, the project is set to revive the Granton Harbour and is thought to be the first marina built alongside a European capital city for several decades.
The City of Edinburgh council is currently considering the plan to build 4,000 new homes in addition to shopping, leisure and office space which will provide employment opportunities for up to 700 people.
The proposed complex, which plans to bring hundreds of millions in “inward investment” to the Capital will also feature a multi-storey car park and new docks capable of berthing 400 boats.
Developers have plans to extend the tram line to Granton and Leith, and possibly introduce a fast-link ferry service to and from Kirkcaldy. They also intend to include a community boatyard and improved facilities for the Royal Forth and Forth Corinthian yacht clubs.
A GCD spokesman said to the Edinburgh Evening News: “We are very pleased with the way in which our development plans have been supported by the local community and we look forward to starting work on this exciting project in 2015.
“We hope that Edinburgh Marina will soon be not just a gateway to Edinburgh, but a focal point of an exciting and energetic new community.”
Construction work is planned to start later this year.
