A new 8-bedroom boutique hotel in Stirling has finally opened, marking the end of a two-year renovation project costing almost £500,000.
New boutique Friars Wynd is owned by Jonathan and Ying Holwell, who overcame multiple hurdles to eventually open the new property this week.
The couple took a huge risk purchasing the property when they first spotted it in 2013, shelving original plans to open a restaurant in favour of a new hotel project.
Since then they nearly ran out of money twice, forcing them to remortgage their home, use up their life savings and tap into investment from both of their fathers to see the project through the final stages.
It was a £50,000 loan from the East of Scotland Investment Fund, secured with assistance from Business Gateway Stirling, which helped the duo overcome the last few hurdles.
Speaking to the Scotsman, Jonathan said: “We are a small family business whose unique hotel will help showcase the history and beauty of the city where we live.”
