The UK hospitality industry’s campaign to cut VAT received a significant boost today with the launch of a parallel campaign from the Sun newspaper.
The Sun’s ‘Give us a break’ campaign highlights the value generated by UK domestic tourism and hospitality businesses and calls on the government to cut VAT in the sector from 20% to 5%
Many European countries levy an equivalent tax at 10% or less. Both the Sun and the British Hospitality Association-led Cut Tourism VAT campaign highlight the boost that a lower rate of VAT could have for businesses and jobs, especially in the regions.
VAT was high on the list of industry concerns at the BHA Summit last month and will be a major topic when the new Tourism Council – which was launched at the Summit – meets for the first time in July.
