The Cottage in the Wood, which is currently undergoing an extensive £2.5m makeover, has announced the appointment of a new F&B manager as phase one of the project nears completion.
The Cottage in the Wood and 1919 Restaurant was purchased by Nick and Julia Davies in summer 2015, who then announced plans for a complete renovation to take place.
The restaurant closed in January before the project to redesign the eatery got underway.
Now new F&B manager Gianluca Rizzo has come on board ahead of the restaurant relaunch in March, which will be mark the first phase of renovation completed at The Cottage on the Wood.
Rizzo has trained with Michel Roux Senior at The Waterside Inn in Bray, and then went on to work in a number of boutique hotels across the UK. He also boasts a sommelier accreditation.
The 30-bedroom Malvern hotel has completely refurbished its 1919 Restaurant and Bar, using soft greys and nature-inspired aesthetics.
Rizzo joins head chef Mark Redwood, who joined the Cottage in the Wood in December 2016.
Speaking on his appointment, Rizzo says: “The hotel is iconic within the region and working with passionate people like Nick, Julia and head chef Mark Redwood, I will be working hard to put it back on the map. I hope to bring my passion for food and wine, which comes from growing up in a traditional Italian family with a small family vineyard, to the hotel along with some Italian warmth to create a fantastic atmosphere for guests.”
