The Lancaster House Hotel has installed a biomass boiler, fuelled by locally-sourced woodchip, to heat the property’s pool, Jacuzzi, outdoor hot tub and showers.
The Lancaster hotel, which has been awarded ‘gold’ status by the National Green Business Tourism Scheme, is thought to be the first property in the area to use the green fuel for a leisure facility.
Lancaster House Hotel operations manager Emma Underwood told Lancaster Guardian: “Not only have we been able to significantly reduce our fuel and waste bills as well as our overall footprint but, with the help of our guests, we’ve been able to give more funding to local conservation projects and our on-going commitment to some great local charities.
“The addition of the biomass heating system underlines our determination to reduce our environmental impact even further.
“We still have many more exciting plans for the future,” Underwood added.
