Next year is already looking like it will stick in the calendar as one to remember. With major expansions, new-build projects and relaunches on the cards for completion, Boutique Hotelier looks ahead to 2016 and the establishments that are already causing a stir.
Nobu Hotel Shoreditch London
Scheduled opening date: Q1 2016
Number of bedrooms: 156
Famed Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa is due to open his first European hotel in London in the first quarter of next year in London’s Shoreditch.
The hotel’s arrival has been a hot talking point since it was announced in May 2014, and will mark the first Nobu property in the UK.
The property is under a long-term management agreement between Nobu Hospitality and owner Willow Corp Sarl, and is being developed by Meir Abutbul, the London-based boutique hotel developer. He described the project as "a critical and valuable chapter in the ongoing evolutionary tale of London".
The hotel will consist of 156 bedrooms and located at 10-50 Willow Street in East London. The menus on offer will be constructed by chef Nobu and are expected to cause a similar stir in the market as the popular restaurants, Nobu in Park Lane and Berkeley Square, which the chef oversees.
The design will reflect the city of origin through Nobu Hospitality’s signature East-meets-West philosophy, which will be materialised by Ben Adams Architects and Studio PCH.
The hotel’s five storeys are fractured into angular, concrete balconies while a landscaped garden at the site’s eastern edge will lead to a restaurant and bar space.
Nobu Hospitality CEO Trevor Horwell said: "The Nobu Hotel Shoreditch in London is our first European hotel joining our growing portfolio collection of hotels covering select locations in the Americas, Middle East and Asia.”
