Cristiano Ronaldo has announced he will is to dabble in the hotel industry, by launching a £54m range of hotels in Madeira, Lisbon and Madrid under his CR7 brand.
The world-famous Real Madrid player has partnered up with Portugal’s biggest hotel chain, Pestana, to open the three properties, with one in the pipeline in New York in the future.
The hotel chain reportedly approached Ronaldo in a bid to help secure his future once his football playing days are over.
Speaking at a press conference, he said: “My job is to play football but life won’t always be like this,” Ronaldo said. “I have to dedicate myself to this new project and I have the best team in the world around me to help.”
The first hotel will open in Madeira next summer where Ronaldo was born, while Lisbon will follow shortly after, with Madrid being ready to launch in 2017, potentially along with New York.
He added: "I will have the opportunity to be present as all the projects unroll but, of course, I don’t have much time available at the present. But this is all about quality, and I like to be around quality.
"I’m certain that this investment is surely one of the safest deals that I can capitalise on for my future.
"We were considering only one hotel originally, so to start with four locations is a big kick-off! It’s like playing for the first time and suddenly scoring lots of goals.
The hotel chain already adds to his growing portfolio off the pitch, which already includes his own CR7 underwear range with the likes of socks, pants and t-shirts.
