The Topland Group has sold Hallmark Hotel Bournemouth West Cliff to new owners.

The 83-bedroom hotel, situated in 1.6 acres, has been acquired by Motoring and Leisure Services (MLS) following an extensive marketing campaign and numerous offers from both hotel investors and operators.

Hallmark Hotel Bournemouth West Cliff is home to a bar, restaurant, lounge, five meeting rooms and spa and leisure facilities alongside the 83 bedrooms and is a popular wedding venue.

It will join the MLS portfolio, which also operates Ghyll Manor Hotel in Horsham, as well as a handful of holiday cottages and attractions.

Alex Campbell, director in Christie & Co’s Corporate Hotels team, comments; “I am delighted to have been part of the sale of such a high-profile business within Bournemouth. The marketing process attracted a significant level of interest from both hotel investors and operators, with numerous offers submitted for the freehold trading going concern.

“The market in Bournemouth for hotels remains robust with demand outstripping supply for good quality, well located, hotel businesses.”

The Topland Group consists of 37 hotels around the UK, including the Royal Crescent Hotel Bath, 27 Hallmark Hotels and eight leased hotels.

GVA advised MLS on the freehold purchase. David Creamore, GVA, said: “The West Cliff hotel represents a significant investment for MLS. Bournemouth is one of the top leisure destinations on the south coast with a cosmopolitan and cultural town centre that offers a wealth of bars and restaurants. Tourism accounts for some 15% of the town’s total economy – or £501 million per annum – and the hotel sector remains a robust yardstick of overall interest.”
