Tullyglass House Hotel in Co Antrim is to undergo an extensive £5m expansion project that will see the property transformed into a luxury spa retreat.
The family-owned hotel has lodged an application to build a four-storey extension, home to 45 new bedrooms, plus a tree-top spa, lounge and new reception area.
The development will be built on the six acres of land recently acquired to the front of the hotel and will be targeted towards catering to the tourist market, which has seen a boom since TV blockbuster Game of Thrones became associated with the area.
Tullyglass House Hotel is owned by the McConville family, who bought the property in 1993, with managing director Gus running the day-to-day operations.
Two years ago, the family spent £2m on acquiring new land, landscaping work plus other exterior developments. In 2005, approximately £5m was spent on a new conference and banqueting facility.
The hotel was originally known as Rainsford House and was built in 1880.
It was owned by James McAllister, the businessman behind McAllister Whiskey.
