Strong December results contributed to a great year for hotels across the UK, with gross operating profit per available room (GOPPAR) showing growth compared to 2013.

According to the latest HotStats survey, both hotels in London and the provinces experienced an increase in trade, with establishments in the south west bringing their share to the nation’s success with GOPPAR increasing by 9% in 2014.

Edinburgh also saw a strong December, despite a virtally flat 2014; hoteliers in the city managed to drive RevPAR up by 5.3%, thanks to increases in all segments’ rates with the largest year-on-year movements deriving from tours/groups (+7.8%) and corporate (+5.8%).
