Wetherspoons looks to add to hotel group with pub expansion

Plans to renovate the first floor of Buxton’s Wetherspoon pub into a handful of boutique bedrooms could go ahead after being approved by local councillors.

The proposal, which would see the pub chain add 8 bedrooms to the first floor of The Wye Bridge House, would see a total of £650,000 invested into the revamp project.

The application, which was submitted to High Peak Borough Council last month, concerns an area of the building which has been previously used for a mixture of storage and staff rooms.

Spokesman Eddie Gershon said Wetherspoon had not yet fully committed to opening a hotel at the Buxton pub, but had carried out a feasibility study.

“Wetherspoon management will be reviewing the scheme in the near future, however although there are no current plans to build a hotel at the pub at present, it is a consideration for the future.”

Documents submitted with the application stated that the development would include various sized boutique hotel rooms, each with an adjoining en-suite and that work would be “to a very high specification”.
