Work to commence on ‘Star Wars’ hotel in Oxfordshire

Building work will shortly begin on a new luxury hotel that is being dubbed as like something out of blockbuster Star Wars.

La Tour hotel group has purchased 1.5 acres of land at Milton Gate, close to the A34 Milton Interchange, to use for the construction of a new 140-bedroom four-star hotel with spa and conference facilities.

The La Tour group runs a four-star boutique hotel in Albert Road, Birmingham, which is noticeable for its striking architectural design and strong shape.

The new hotel in Milton Park will be the first four-star luxury hotel in the area and will help address the shortage of overnight accommodation in the Park.

Work is scheduled to begin shortly and will be completed ready for opening in the autumn of 2017.

Spokesman Philip Campbell said: “The hotel will be a real asset to the area. We are very excited about this.”

Last year, Labour town councillor Margaret Davies said the winged effect of the hotel’s roofline made it look like something out of Star Wars.

After seeing the latest artists’ impressions she said they were “remarkable”.

She said: “The new hotel at Milton Gate will be seen by drivers from the A34 and will really make a statement. It’s good news for economic development in the area.”
