Works could start on a £4.5m project to convert Leigh-on-Sea’s Grade II-listed Grand Hotel into a boutique hotel, with a restaurant and piano bar next month, owner Mick Norcross suggested on Twitter.
The former The Only Way is Essex star’s latest hotel update on January 15 Twitter stated: "Great meeting today with my design team for the Grand Hotel & spa! @stonemedesign very exciting times ahead".
In September, Norcross finally obtained the lease from Spirit Group for the landmark building following a long-running saga after subsidance was found on the site.
He had previously had trouble getting planning permission for a two-storey extension, which was eventually approved in August 2012.
He told the Echo in September 2013: “Negotiations over the lease are all done. The lease has been assigned to me and nobody else. It was confirmed on Monday.
“It’s good news, all the standing points on the lease have been agreed and we can now move forward”.
The property will have 20 bedrooms and a bridal suite upon completion within an expected 12-18 months.
