X-Factor-style auditions to wheedle out the best employees for Manchester’s first double-decker hotel

Management at Manchester’s first double-decker hotel have done away with the traditional interviewing process in favour of an audition process.

The dual-branded hotel, which will see Staybridge Suites and Crowne Plaza housed under the same roof, will hold X-Factor-style auditions to find top talent for the hotel.

With up to 50 positions available, aspiring candidates will be invited to one of four audition days, where they will be observed working through several creative group tasks.

Tasks will include customer service scenarios, creative construction tasks using Lego and a Beat the Clock challenge.

“Having hospitality experience is not essential,” said Andrew Fletcher, general manager of the 19-storey property which will open in spring 2018.

“What we are looking for is true individuals who display heaps of personality, real enthusiasm and a genuine desire to make all our guests feel as welcome as possible.

“At the same time, we will be looking out for behavioural patterns in each candidate that mirrors the values of the Crowne Plaza and Staybridge Suites brands, and the parent company InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).”

A Ready Steady Cook-style Audition Day will also be used to recruit the full team of chefs and kitchen employees.

Fletcher added: “This style of recruitment may seem a little bit unusual but I have always believed in having a fun and engaged workforce who will bring energy, enthusiasm and personality to their role.

“Our employees are fundamental to our ability to deliver outstanding service, and the Audition Days will be the perfect platform to ensure we uncover Manchester’s next hospitality stars.”
