FIRST LOOK: The Pig at Bridge Place opens its doors

The hotly-anticipated sixth Pig property in the litter has now opened its doors to the paying public for the first time.

The Pig at Bridge Place has opened its 31 bedrooms and bar and restaurant following an 18-month transformation project as part of the group’s £30m expansion plan that will see a total of three new properties launch before the end of 2020.

Formerly Bridge Place Country Club, The Pig at Bridge Place is a 17th century manor house just outside the village of Bridge in the Nailbourne valley, three miles south of Canterbury, Kent.

Previously the hotel was owned for more than 50 years by Peter Malkin and played host to some renowned parties and gigs in the ‘70s from the likes of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.

Its ‘Piggy’ makeover has made sure to retain many period features including large fireplaces, secret stairways and panelled rooms, with the design spearheaded by Robin and his wife Judy.

A total of 29 bedrooms – seven in the main house, 12 in the coach house, tow family lodges and a rustic two-storey hideaway in the old stables – are situated across the site.

Two treatment rooms are located in a separate barn.

There are also seven Kentish hop pickers’ huts on stilts which sit alongside the river in the grounds and feature double-bedrooms with fitted bathrooms and wood burning stove.

Speaking at announcement of the group’s £30m expansion plan, CEO of Home Grown Hotels Robin Hutson said: “We’ve had a great couple of years, with customers seeming to love what we do. Occupancy is in the mid 90%’s in our rural locations and we know from our guests and their invaluable feedback that they want more PIGs. After searching far and wide for truly unique properties, we really are over the moon about our new hotel in Kent.”

In January we reported how The Pig at Bridge Place was starting its recruitment drive ahead of its launch in a few months’ time.

The hotel is part of a £30m expansion plan from parent company, Home Grown Hotels, headed up by Robin Hutson, with the new hotel one of three new additions due to launch over the next 18 months.

The Pig-at Harlyn Bay will open in winter 2019 and The Pig-on the South Downs will open in spring 2020.
