Mama Shelter is to open its first property in London in September, bringing its ‘unique brand’ of accessible hospitality to the UK.
Mama London will launch later this year in East London, close to Cambridge Heath and Bethnal Green and will comprise 195 bedrooms priced from £99.
The new hotel will also be home to a 100-cover restaurant, a Mama bar and outdoor courtyard with retractable glass roof.
The design features vintage lamps and a twist on the English lace doily, paired with dark wooden interiors, pops of coloured macramé and Liberty prints.
The chalkboard ceilings are adorned with graffiti by graphic designer and artist Beniloys while table football and a giant in-built Twister board provide further entertainment.
Downstairs, Japanese-style karaoke rooms are decked out with pinball machines, retro video games, and classic 50s-style microphones.
Mama Shelter first launched to market in 2008 in Paris. Founded by the Trigano family – co-Founder of Club Med – and designer Philippe Starck, Mama Shelter believed in launching in lesser-known, ‘out of the way’ neighbourhoods in iconic cities.
Now the group comprises nine properties in cities such as Lyon, Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro and Prague with Toulouse, Lille and Paris West set to open this year alongside London.
More properties are also slated for launch by 2022.
In 2014, AccorHotels bought a 35 percent stake in Mama Shelter to help fuel its growth.
