Trendy hospitality brand Ace Hotels is to launch a new spin-off brand called Sister City, which will make its debut in New York this autumn.
Described as an ‘experiment in essentialism, Sister City will open in the city’s Bowery District in the Lower East Side and is currently being transformed from a 100-year-old building which was previously occupied by the Salvation Army.
The brand has been born out of the emerging trend for ‘lean luxury’ and is said to be a hotel ‘distilled to its most beautiful working parts’.
Sister City will be home to 200 bedrooms, a ground-floor restaurant and a rooftop bar, and apart from two photos released of the bedrooms, little has been revealed what it will look like.
The hotel’s Instagram page, which already has 1,500 followers, only has three images – and they are all blank white. There are also a couple of hints on the website such as “plants and soft feeling”.
Kelly Sawdon, chief brand officer of Atelier Ace, says: “We are inspired by the philosophy of ‘less, but better. The inherent satisfaction of having just enough. Sister City looks through a focused lens to truly anticipate what people need when they’re traveling — comfort, beauty and human connection.”
The Ace Hotel brand consists of nine properties, including one in New York already, its newest addition in Chicago and the London hotel which opened in 2013.
