Amber Asher has announced she has stepped down from her role as chief executive officer of The Standard Hotels, following the sale of the company to Hyatt last year.
Announcing the news on LinkedIn, Asher said it has been “the greatest honor of my life” to lead the teams at The Standard Hotels and Bunkhouse for the past seven years as CEO and that the decision was “bittersweet”.
She first joined Standard International in 2011, before being promoted to president in 2017 and then CEO in 2021.
Asher wrote: “I am extremely proud of what we accomplished together with no shortage of obstacles (I could write a book but I won’t…don’t worry). We went from four Standard Hotels in the U.S. to 25 hotels across multiple brands around the world. And many more to come! Since 2018, we grew our revenue by 400% and finally achieved profitability. When I started as general counsel at Andre Balazs Properties in 2011, I had no idea what was in store for me but I’m so glad I stayed along for the ride. What a ride it was!”
Asher revealed that she will now take a career break in order to figure out her next move.
Hyatt Hotels Corporation completed its acquisition of Standard International, the parent company of The Standard and Bunkhouse Hotels brands, in October last year for £272 million.
Hotels in the portfolio include The Standard London, The Standard, High Line in New York City, and recently opened The Manner in SoHo.
Upcoming property openings include The Standard Singapore and The StandardX, Bangkok Phra Arthit.
The acquisition also includes an expansive residential business, with Standard Residences under development in Miami, Lisbon, Hua Hin, Mexico City and Phuket.
Over 30 future projects are part of the acquisition agreement, including those with a signed agreement of letter of intent.
