Artist Residence Bristol to open in October marking brand’s fifth project

Charlie and Justin Salisbury, founders of the quirky boutique hotel group Artist Residence, have announced that their fifth and largest project yet, will open in Bristol in October 2019.

The new hotel is a former boot factory located in the creative St Pauls district that has been transformed to accommodate 23 bedrooms above a bar, café, garden, restaurant and events space.

Part Georgian townhouse, part boot factory, the Grade-I listed building was on the ‘At Risk’ register in 2015 when Charlotte and Justin acquired it and has been the duo’s ‘most challenging restoration project’ to date.

The couple have worked tirelessly to revive the building’s history – restoring original beams, industrial sliding doors and Georgian cornicing as well as exposing the original brick walls, typical of their signature style.

As with every Artist Residence, guests can expect eclectic, thoughtful design bursting with industrial, vintage and antique elements alongside a striking local art collection.

Speaking of the art collection, Charlotte Salisbury says: “We pick art for our places that make you feel good, have a little chuckle or stop for a double take, whether that’s with a bright colour palette, a hint of nostalgia or with witty typography.”

The restaurant and bar will be named The Boot Factory, and general manager Nick Ledgard – formerly of Granger & Co, is heading up the team.

Artist Residence launched in 2008 in Brighton, followed by Penzance in 2010 and London in 2014. Artist Residence Oxfordshire opened its doors in 2017.
