Design-led, trendy boutique brand, Artist Residence, is to open its fifth property in Bristol this summer.
The group, which is led by husband and wife Justin and Charlotte Salisbury, comprises boutique hotels in Brighton, Pimlico, Cornwall and Oxford and has spent the last four years renovating an old boot factory in Bristol to open later this year.
The Grade-I listed derelict building on Portland Square in the St Paul’s area of the city dates back to the 18th century and is undergoing a complete transformation to become the Artist Residence Bristol, with 23 bedrooms, ‘eclectic décor and playful art’.
The 23 bedrooms will be tucked away above a bar, cafe, garden, restaurant and events space with many of the historic features of the building, such as structural beams, pots and industrial sliding doors retained during the refurbishment.
The design will feature red metal letters from the 1960s and French street light from the 1930s as a nod to the building’s industrial history, as well as statement bathtubs and headboards for a touch of ‘bohemian’ luxe.
As like all the AR properties, art is a key element to the design, with a quirky mix of pieces sourced from local artists.
Artist Residence launched in 2008 in Brighton, followed by Penzance in 2010 and London in 2014. Artist Residence Oxfordshire opened its doors in 2017.
