Bedroom expansion begins at Midlands boutique hotel to almost triple in size

Work has begun on a new bedroom block at The Edgbaston boutique hotel in the Midlands.

The independently-owned hotel on the Calthorpe Estate in Edgbaston Village has been started construction on 14 new bedrooms, to be built next door to the six-bed boutique.

The new rooms are expected to open towards the end of this year.

Stuart Insall, co-owner of The Edgbaston, said: “We wanted to be sure that the two buildings will blend seamlessly so the new rooms will follow an art deco theme, whilst retaining period features such as sash windows and high ceilings, which will also make the most of the natural light.”

The Edgbaston opened in 2014 and boasts an occupancy of 95%.

Alongside its six bedrooms, there are also three cocktail lounges with another extension on the cards for the coming year for the hotel’s Moet & Chandon bar terrace.

The space will double in size from 70 to 140 covers and is described as the next ‘logical’ step for the business.

Co-owner Insall also part owns The Kenilworth.

Natasha Walkden, sales and marketing manager for Calthorpe Estates, added: “Expanding this flagship boutique hotel – which has the only Moet & Chandon terrace outside of London – is the next logical step.  It will enable both The Edgbaston, and the Estate as a whole, to continue to meet the increasing demand for somewhere unique to visit.”
