Big investment plans on the agenda at Mullion Cove Hotel as spa gets the go ahead

Mullion Cove

Mullion Cove Hotel in Cornwall is to embark on two major development projects this year, as a new spa and additional self-catering cottages get the go ahead from planning officials.

The three-star hotel on the Lizard Peninsula in south Cornwall has begun work on the new purpose-built spa facility, which will be built adjacent to the current outdoor pool.

Four more luxury apartments will also be built to add to the hotel’s popular self-catering cottages, as business continues to grow for the property owned by the Grose family.

General manager Daniel Thompson told Boutique Hotelier that the two new additions will help to ‘push back the seasonality’ at Mullion Cove Hotel, and help the site to become a ‘year round retreat’.

The new spa will use colours and materials to ‘evoke Cornwall and its tin mining history’, utilising coppers, bronzes, brass, tins, silvers and granite, combined with splashes of blues and greens inspired by the sea.

The use of seaweeds and sea salts incorporated into treatments and products will help to add a feeling of natural and organic relaxation.

Natural sounds, such as recordings of the Mullion sea washing against the pebbles in the harbour, along with the use of foraged seaweed from the lizard and salt products derived from the Lizard peninsula will also be utilised.

Daniel Thompson, general manager, says: “This spa project is one of two big investments at our hotel this year as we are also expanding our incredibly popular self catering offering by adding four more luxury apartments, which will be open in the spring. The business is growing and it is an exciting time to be at Mullion and by offering a spa facility we hope to push back at seasonality to become an all year retreat offering a unique cliff top spa experience, award winning hotel facilities, luxurious self catering apartments, rosette awarded food and to top it off – the most magnificent view!”
