Bovey Castle in Devon, part of the Eden Hotel Collection, has appointed a new general manager to replace Francisco Macedo, who stepped down earlier this year.
Martin Kelly joins the five-red-star hotel and country estate situated in Dartmoor having previously held general manager positions at the Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa and L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa in Jersey, alongside other hotel management roles at properties in Brighton, Birmingham and Glasgow.
Kelly takes over from Greg Fehler, Bovey Castle’s former resort director, who stepped in to oversee the 60-bedroom hotel when Macedo stood down with immediate effect in July after a year in the role of GM.
Mark Chambers, managing director, Eden Hotel Collection, says: “Martin brings a wealth of experience to his pivotal new role as general manager of Bovey Castle. The hotel continues to go from strength to strength and we are looking forward to Martin further shaping the hotel’s future development and success.”
Eden Hotel Collection acquired Bovey Castle in 2014 and has since invested millions in a number of improvements across the estate.
Now the site is home to 60 bedrooms, 22 lodges, an 18-hole championship golf course, tennis courts and an Elan Spa – complete with swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, treatment rooms and a dedicated Gentlemen’s Quarter.
On-site experiences include falconry, cider and sloe gin-making and 4×4 off-road driving. Earlier this year the hotel opened its new Deer Park within the estate.
The hotel’s Great Western restaurant is overseen by head chef Mark Budd and has 3 AA Rosettes. The Eden Hotel Collection consists of nine luxury hotels, restaurants and spas. They are Mallory Court, Leamington Spa; Buckland Tout-Saints Hotel and Bovey Castle in Devon; The Kings Hotel, Cotswolds; The Arden Hotel and Arden House in Stratford-upon-Avon; Brockencote Hall Hotel, Worcestershire; The Greenway Hotel & Spa, Cheltenham, and The Mount Somerset Hotel & Spa, Somerset.
