Beer behemoth BrewDog has announced it will open a second hotel in Scotland.
The opening date for The Edinburgh Doghouse is yet to be confirmed, but the site will be located on East Market Street, close to Waverley station. It will be the second Scottish BrewDog hotel, following on from Kennels, which opened in Aberdeen back in 2019.
News of the hotel was announced at BrewDog’s second virtual AGM for shareholders and the property will joining existing BrewDog hotel concepts in Manchester, Aberdeen and the USA.
BrewDog’s first foray into the hotel industry was in America, where it opened a Doghouse concept in Columbus, Ohio in 2017. That site features a brewery, tap room bar and 32 bedrooms.
The Edinburgh Doghouse is set to follow much of the same layout, offering guests beer on tap in all rooms, as well as a stocked mini-bar and fridges in the shower so that guests can enjoy ‘shower beers’.
The hotel will occupy the former site of the Canongate Hotel, which was placed on the market with Knight Frank for £8million in 2019.
The former C-listed Victorian schoolhouse has space for 21 apartment-style hotel rooms as well as a two storey commercial space that can house a bar, restaurant and outdoor terrace.
Brewdog’s latest hotel opening was the Doghouse Manchester, which launched in April of this year.
That site features 18 rooms, as well as a ground-floor bar complete with 30 taps of beer and a rooftop ‘jungle’ bar home to a taco bar.
