Edgar House in Chester, which was voted Britain’s Most Romantic Hotel by TripAdvisor, has won the right to expand after going up against its neighbours to expand into its annexe next door.
The property, which is owned by Michael Stephen and Timothy Mills, acquired the building next door to Edgar House in 2016 and have now been granted planning permission to transform it into extra accommodation.
As reported in the Chester Chronicle, the proposal however was met with opposition from their neighbours, who feared ‘raucous’ behaviour from guests would upset the peace and the development would invade their privacy.
The hotel owners, however, said their guests pay a high price to enjoy ‘peaceful riverside luxury’ and argued that there was no risk of noise from children, dogs or late-night activities.
They plan to turn the building into four bedrooms.
The case was taken to court and the judge ruled that there was little risk of ‘raucous behaviour’ by guests, giving Stephen and Mills the plan the green light to expand Edgar House.
