Philip Bolson

Philip Bolson joined The Grand, York in 2017 as general manager with a wealth of experience and expertise having been in the hospitality industry for nearly 30 years.

Starting his career at Whitbread as general manager in 1989, Philip has since worked across a variety of hotel groups including Travelodge, Wyndham Hotel Group and Redefine BDL. Prior to starting at The Grand, Philip held the role of operations director at the Splendid Hospitality Group, overseeing the management and acquisition of several hotels across the portfolio with impressive success. With a natural willingness to develop his peers, Philip was also a key member of the team rolling out the company’s innovative approach to HR, The Splendid Hospitality Purpose & Way.

 The driven hotelier joined at a critical and exciting time for the five-star York hotel, having recently doubled in size after opening 100 new bedrooms as part of its £15m expansion and refurbishment. 2017 also saw the opening of The Rise Restaurant, Terrace & Bar, and refurbishment of Hudsons. Philip also played a pivotal role in implementing and launching the hotel’s new cookery school in early March 2019.

 Philip’s passion for developing future talent is supported through his quarterly staff meetings, which he delivers with integrity, commitment and dedicated mentorship. Outside of the hotel, Philip works tirelessly with the local community including Make It York and Welcome to Yorkshire, to continually increase the awareness of the surrounding destination, targeting London and the southeast especially.
