BUSINESS LEADERS: Richard Deak, general manager, Dunalastair Hotel Suites

Richard Deak

Dunalastair Hotel Suites is the first boutique hotel from Henley Homes and Richard Deak is general manager. Richard provides exceptional organisational change and people management skills, being experienced in a range of senior hospitality roles.

This year the Highland Perthshire hotel, located in one of Scotland’s most popular jet-setting destinations, underwent a multi-million pound makeover to create an ‘oasis of luxury’ having started life as a village inn more than 200 years ago. The hard work paid off as last year the 32-bedroom boutique received a five-star grading from VisitScotland for demonstrating high standards of excellence and customer service.

At the helm of it all is Richard, who works closely with the hotel’s owners and hotel team to keep standards consistent.

A multi-lingual senior manager, Richard was a gold medallist at the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce Hotelier of the Year in 2011. Senior positions beckoned at Macdonald Hotels & Resorts followed by a move to boutique hotels, where he secured the only three AA Red Rosettes for culinary excellence in the Cairngorms National Park.

Richard took on the general manager role at Dunalastair Hotel Suites, in May 2017. He has since been instrumental in generating record profits with exceptional efficiency drives, along with motivating and nurturing a diverse and multinational team. This has resulted in record performance for the hotel, and quickly turning this once forgotten part of the Highlands in to a destination within itself.
