Business Leaders: Ross Grieve, managing director, Seaham Hall

Considerable investment, constant innovation and targeted marketing have helped revitalise Seaham Hall, County Durham, returning the hotel to its former glory and transforming it into a destination of choice in the north-east.

Ross Grieve has driven this transformation, spearheading fundamental and bold changes to cement the future of the historic establishment. Within 12 months of joining the hotel, Ross took the hotel away from administration and regained its five-star status. The hotel now enjoys strong year-on-year financial performance; it also achieved 5 Red Stars 2019 from the AA (Inspector’s Choice Award).

In an effort to remove barriers synonymous with traditional five-star hotels, Ross has steered the hotel into a new direction that has seen it blossom into an indulgent yet playful establishment.

With increased awareness of the connection between mind and body, the Serenity Spa has also broken the mould of a traditional hotel spa by building a holistic therapy portfolio, introducing a hypnotherapy programme.

Ross has also relaxed the staff dress code, actively encourages staff to take the time to form genuine relationships with guests and ensures high levels of personalisation at every stage of the guest journey.
