Work is ramping up at Carlton Hotel Collection’s first property in Edinburgh, which is due for completion in early 2019 following a three-year, £20m construction project.
The new 98-bedroom property is being built within a UNESCO World Heritage site in the city, as part of a partnership with property development and investment business EDI Group.
The site has laid vacant for over 50 years previously.
Construction began almost two years ago, with plans for the new hotel, on the border of Edinburgh’s historic Old Town at 6 Market Street, next to the City Art Centre, first announced in 2015.
Once open, guests will have access to a top floor lounge with views across the city in a specilly-designed champagne roof bar terrace.
The interior design of Market Street comes from designers FG Stijl. In 2007 FG Stijl designed The Dominican in Brussels, a boutique hotel which also forms part of the Carlton Hotel Collection.
Market Street hotel will be the first hotel in Scotland to be selected as a member of Design Hotels TM.
Carlton Hotel Collection’s managing director Alfred Bree said: “Throughout the hotel, the interior design reflects the heritage of the location while meeting all demands of the international modern traveller. We are working hard to put the finishing touches to it so that this remarkable building will be ready for our guests to enjoy soon.”
