Cheltenham gem sold to Cotswolds Inns for £4m

The largest privately owned hotel in Cheltenham has been sold to Cotswolds Inns and Hotels Group off a guide price of £4m.

The Grade-II listed The George in St George’s Road, near the city centre, comprises 30 bedrooms, the popular Monty’s Brasserie, plus a host of meeting rooms.

The sale further demonstrates the strength of the market in the Cotswolds, with a number of new transactions bringing a new generation of aspiring owners to the area.

Colliers International hotels director Peter Brunt, who acted for vendors Jeremy and Alison Shaw in the deal, said: “Cheltenham boasts a number of top notch hotels, but The George, with its 30 elegant bedrooms and popular Monty’s brasserie, is ideally situated to welcome overseas, business and leisure guests.”

“Located in the heart of the city centre, Cheltenham’s increasing popularity meant it was one of the very few regions which performed strongly during the downturn. The George is underpinned by the lovely countryside, accessibility to London, and the strong trading performance that these factors generate.”
