Luke Phillips has been appointed head chef at Hans Bar & Grill, the restaurant at 11 Cadogan Gardens in London.
Phillips joins from the luxury hotel’s sister property, Chewton Glen in Hampshire where he has been for eight and a half years.
He takes over from Adam England, who launched Hans Bar & Grill in spring 2018.
Phillips said he was ‘extremely grateful’ for the opportunity to lead the kitchen brigade at such an ‘exciting time’ in its development.
No stranger to Hans Bar & Grill, Phillips hosted a successful pop-up restaurant at the property earlier this year, following an appearance on MasterChef: the Professionals.
Phillips commented: “I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to lead the kitchen brigade at Hans’ Bar & Grill at such an exciting time in its development. I plan to create strong relationships with my guests, introducing them to my style of cuisine, which is a fusion of classic and modern techniques that has been developed working alongside some great chefs. I thoroughly intend to immerse myself into the kitchen life by striving for originality and creativity.”
Housed behind one of Pavilion Road’s mews facades, Hans’ Bar and Grill is a 106-seater restaurant with green panelled walls, exposed brickwork, and botanical prints combined with leather banquettes, marble-topped tables.
Commenting on the appointment, Iconic Luxury Hotel’s Executive Director Andrew Stembridge said: “This is a very exciting opportunity for Luke to take control of his own kitchen and use the managerial and culinary skills that he has honed during his time at Chewton Glen under Executive Head Chef, Luke Matthews. Luke Phillips has had a long association with Chewton Glen completing a total of 8 ½ years’ service. He completed his Specialist Chef Apprenticeship at Chewton Glen and has worked his way up to Senior Sous Chef over two subsequent tenures. His appearance on the popular television programme MasterChef: The Professionals 2018, wowing judges Marcus Wareing, Monica Galetti and Gregg Wallace with his excellent cooking skills and creative flare, has more than demonstrated that Luke is a real culinary star in the making and we are thrilled to be a part of that career journey for Luke, from his early days at Chewton Glen, to now providing him with the opportunity of heading up his own brigade in one of London’s up and coming restaurants, Hans’ Bar & Grill.”
