Cornwall’s Merchant House purchased by former owners of The Rosevine

Merchant House in Truro, Cornwall has been sold to hotel operators with a wealth of experience in the area, who have ‘exciting plans’ for the future of the business.

The 30-bedroom hotel was previously owned by Nicky Whittaker who acquired the property in 2012 and carried out a number of extensions and renovations since.

Merchant House has been purchased by Blonde & Grey Ltd, set up by experienced hotel operators and consultants Tim and Hazel Brocklebank, who also run The Brocklebank Partnership Consultancy.

They previously owned The Rosevine, near Portscatho, which they sold in 2016.

They comment: “As we take over the business, we wish Nicky well. Being local to Truro we know the hotel well, and saw a great opportunity to purchase Merchant’s House, and to take the hotel forwards. We look forward to sharing our plans for the hotel in the very near future.”

Stephen Champion, director in Christie & Co’s Hospitality team brokered the sale and comments, “We are delighted to have successfully brokered the sale of Merchant House on behalf of our client, Nicky Whittaker. The hotel has a profitable track record and has seen year on year growth under our clients’ stewardship, so it’s no surprise that the hotel attracted bids from multiple parties.”
