Countdown underway to UK’s first National Tea Brewer’s Championship

Entries are hotting up for the National Tea Brewer’s Championship, which is being launched at the Beverage Standards Association’s (BSA) PopUp Show on June 20. 

The first heat at Bury Lodge, Stanstead is spearheaded by The UK Tea Academy in partnership with the BSA.

Further heats take place at Caffé Culture in October 2019 and the Championship culminates in the semi-finals and final at the Business Design Centre in London in March 2020.

Open to entrants from the UK, Europe, Asia and countries worldwide, the competition offers a professional platform for people working in hotels, restaurants, cafés, tea houses, tea rooms, coffee shops and tea and coffee related businesses to demonstrate their craft and flair in producing a range of tea beverages to a professional standard. 

The Competition outline comprises:

Classic Brewing and tasting Skills session: Candidates will be asked to prepare the perfect cup of tea in each category of teas (green, white, black, yellow etc.) using the classic methods and classic standards (water gr, gr of tea, different temperatures)

Description and tasting notes comparison against the actual taste of the competitor’s chosen teas for the preparation of the classic teas per each category.

Signature Drink session: The competitors will showcase a signature Tea Based Drink of their choice/invention, this can be prepared using any chosen brewing/extraction methods and can contain different ingredients including spirits, syrups, veg and fruits, and it can be a cold and/or hot drink.

Competitors can pit their skills against fellow tea brewers free of charge by entering via an on-line application form on the BSA’s website –
