Devon hotel responds to demand for alfresco weddings with £12m investment in new facility

A hotel in north Devon has revealed plans to embark on a new project to invest in a new £12m outdoor venue, to further target the lucrative wedding market.

The Cedars Inn in Barnstaple will create a new wedding gazebo on its grounds this year, in time for the booming summer season, following a hike in demand for alfresco weddings.

While the popular hotel, restaurant and inn, operated by Old English Inns, has always been available as a licenced wedding venue, the new structure will enable couples to get hitched outside.

Speaking to the Gazette Live, general manager Peter Elder said: “We have so many requests for outside weddings and we are so pleased we will soon be able to offer this facility.

“This will give our brides to be the choice to get married inside or outside – the perfect addition to our wedding packages.”

The Cedars is home to 37 bedrooms, including a bridal suite, which Elder hinted could be expanded if plans were given the green light. This work however is still in very early stages.

In July 2016, the property was given a makeover, which saw the bar area decorated and new furniture and flooring installed.

Elder added: “Following our major refurbishment to the hotel and restaurant back in July 2016, the Cedars has continued to grow and become a very popular destination for Food, drink, accommodation and entertainment.

“We are all now very excited about our new outside wedding structure and the fact that we can extend our wedding offering to outside ceremonies.”
