Dorking’s Pippbrook House could see boutique hotel transformation as part of region regeneration ‘masterplan’

Pippbrook House in Dorking could be given a new lease of life as a luxury hotel as a ‘masterplan’ to transform the area goes forward to councillors.

The ‘massive’ redevelopment of the Pippbrook end of Dorking high street could see more homes, parking and the new hotel created if the proposal is given the go ahead.

The Grade-II listed Pippbrook House would be completely refurbished, having been left vacant for some years, at an estimated cost of £5m stated in the council report.

As well as the new hotel, the plan would see the council’s Pippbrook offices maintained, as well as the tennis courts, bowls club and pavilion plus Dorking Halls and Dorking Sports Centre.

Plans were discussed at a Mole Valley District Council committee meeting last week and will be decided upon later this month.

Speaking about the possibility of renovating Pippbrook House Cllr Cooksey argued that MVDC needs to be imaginative in its plans.

She said: “Obviously on the site we have buildings like Pippbrook House which need a bit of tender, loving, care and the amount of money needed to bring that back into public use is vast.

“So it is a site where we may need to be creative and think outside the box. I personally think it would make an excellent wedding revenue providing the parkland around it was kept.”
