Dormy House strikes restaurant gold


John Ingram’s Garden Room at Dormy House Hotel near Broadway in the Cotswolds has been named Hotel Restaurant of the Year 2014.

The Garden Room at Dormy House beat Buckland Manor and Lords of the Manor Hotel in Upper Slaughter in the 2014 Cotswold Life Food and Drink Awards.

But head chef Ingram promises we “ain’t seen nothing yet”.

BBC TV ‘Countryfile’ presenter Adam Henson presented the award to Jon Ingram and Restaurant Manager Sam Noar before an audience of 500 at Cheltenham Racecourse this week.

Henson said that judges had praised the presentation of each course and were also impressed with the “friendly and accommodating” staff.

Ingram joined Dormy House in April, following a career that spans time at the 7-star Burj Al Arab in Dubai and top London hotels The Grove, the Sky Lounge at the Mint Hotel and the Blue Boar Smokehouse at the Intercontinental Westminster.

“This is a wonderful award to win in the Cotswolds – one of the UK’s finest tourist locations,” said Ingram, “but you ain’t seen nothing yet.

“We were shortlisted alongside a Relais & Chateau hotel and a Michelin-starred hotel restaurant and yet the judges chose us. This proves that we are doing what we always set out to do – and that is, quite simply, to be the best restaurant for miles.

“I have great plans for the future of food at Dormy.

"I’ve just taken delivery of an amazing Bertha charcoal oven that will enable us to cook steaks to perfection.

"I am also developing a whole new range of dishes for our restaurant and bar menus.

"For instance, you have to try my Rioja risotto with braised octopus and sea bream.

I want to knock everyone’s socks off with our food.”

Dormy House is part of the 400-acre Farncombe Estate which overlooks the Vale of Evesham – home to some of the finest fruit and vegetables, meat and milk in the country.

There are two main eateries: the informal Potting Shed bar and the light and airy Garden Room, serving an imaginative four-course evening menu for just £40.

The signature pudding, a seasonal crumble soufflé, has been a signature dish ever since the refurbished hotel launched in August 2013.
