EXCLUSIVE: New boutique venture The Franklin tops £8m to become one of London’s most impressive hotel projects

Luxury boutique hotel The Franklin launched in August 2016 after an investment of over £8m, making the 35-bedroom hotel one of London’s most expensive projects in terms of size and cost.

The hotel, which was designed by Anouska Hempel and joins The Gore and The Pelham in the StarHotels UK collection, opened its doors last year, having invested a huge amount in each of the property’s 35 bedrooms.

Split over five floors, the bedrooms are located within the top three, with seven categories of room type, including the luxurious presidential suite which comes with a starting rate of £2,000 per night.

During Christmas The Franklin boasted occupancy rates of near 100% and while trade has dropped off slightly since then, the hotel will now focus on driving more corporate business to fill the quieter periods.

Situated in South Kensington London, the Franklin is also home to an Italian restaurant, run by top chef Alfredo Russo, which only launched last week, but is ‘picking up local trade well’ according to staff.

The 30-cover restaurant is bidding for a Michelin star, with Russo also now due to open his first restaurant in Dubai this month, Vivaldi at the Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel.

The restaurant serves a number of dishes throughout the day, with afternoon tea proving popular and a new brunch menu on its way.

The Franklin has a gym, sauna and treatment room, located on the lower ground floor of the building, with a freelance spa therapist coming in when appointments have been made.
